In 1991 InterCity launched its biggest ever advertising campaign under the theme ’Clock this‘. The new advertising strategy combined the ’Relax‘ commercials with a new drive to stress InterCity‘s other major benefit - speed. ’Black Silk‘ promotes the IC225s on the newly electrified East Coast Main Line and the fact that Britain now boasted more trains running over 100mph than any other railway in Europe. Over 2,000 yards of silk were used to cover the IC225.
