South for Sunshine was used for many years on Southern Railway advertising material. The poster below is just one example. It was also used as the title for the Southern Railway publicity book, the cover of which is also shown below.

Sunny South Sam

Sunny South Sam was created by the Southern Railway to be the helpful member of staff waiting to help you on arrival at an unknown location. Many Sams, normally ticket collectors or station staff, would be located around the SR system. His image was also used to advertise the SR slogans South for Sunshine and all its variants. Advertising material played strongly on the fact that the SR could take you to the places that each year topped the sunshine league table.

This graphic is taken from the 1932 leaflet and is typical of the slogans used.

Note the similarity with the 1931 poster below.
